Day 1 - Kakadu
Pick up at 7am from accommodation.
Head to the Adelaide River for our Crocodile cruise.
Nourlangie Rock (Rock Art and Views)
Swim at Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole) special permit access.
Camp at Private Safari Camp.

Day 2 - Kakadu
Early to rise for a big day
Explore the Yurmikmik region for a full day of walking and Swimming
Cascading Falls of Boulder Creek
Motor Car Falls
Gunlom Falls (when accessible)
Camp Private camp with air conditioned share dorms
Showers and toilet facilities (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Litchfield
Up early again to head to Litchfield National Park
Wangi Falls
Florence Falls for a cool swim
Tolmer Falls
Buley Rockhole’s
Giant Termite mounds
Return to Darwin approximately 5.30pm (B,L)

Accommodation for the 3 day Kakadu/Litchfield will continue to be camping until the monsoons begin, early December, where they will then stay at a private camp. This has air conditioned dorm-share accommodation . Dorm and camping fees are all inclusive. This is only available on the second night.

The boat cruise may change in April to the Corroborree Billabong cruise. This means that the pick up time will move to 06.30am. Please check this when reconfirming prior to travel.

ITINERARY



Day 1

We start our Kakadu tour by heading straight for a wildlife cruise with crocodiles and bird watching. Fantastic photo opportunities.
Then we commence the drive toward Kakadu National Park.
A picnic lunch on the East Alligator rivers bank (not too close!) with the opportunity to spot some crocs and flying foxes.
Then on to the world famous Ubirr Rock in the north of the park. Ancient rock art and staggering 360º views over the Nardab floodplain.
Dinner and camping under the stars in the heart of Kakadu at our safari camp.

Day 2:
After breakfast we do some 4 Wheel driving to Twin Falls. From here we take the escarpment walk to the top of the falls for a swim in the crystal clear pools away from the crowds.
Then we’ll find a shady spot by Jim Jim Creek for some lunch.
A short climb up Budjimi Lookout will reward you with spectacular views of the ancient Arnhemland escarpment.
After lunch, a 1km walk through monsoonal vine forest to the base of Jim Jim Falls for a relaxing afternoon swimming in the plunge pool and resting on the beach.
Tonight we camp at Garnamarr, at the base of the escarpment. Tonight we replenish ourselves with the Great Aussie BBQ

Day 3:
An early start as we head to the Warradjan Cultural Centre to learn more about the local Aboriginal people of Kakadu.
We then make our way to Barramundi Gorge (Maguk) for a 1km walk through towering paperbarks and crystal clear waters for a refreshing swim in the plunge pool.
Heading home after a fantastic tour along the old Jim Jim road stopping of at White Lily billabong for our last look at Kakadu and a stretch of the legs.
We return to Darwin approximately 5.30pm ending our Kakadu tour. (B,L)

Day 1 - Kakadu 

  • Pick up at 6.30am from accommodation

  • Jim Jim Falls, a 1km walk to the plunge pool for a refreshing swim surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs
  • Back on the road we head further south to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge)
  • From here we head to our camp near Litchfield
  • Aussie BBQ 
  • Showers and toilet facilities ( B,L,D)

Day 3 - Litchfield

  • Up early again to head to Litchfield National Park
  • Wangi Falls
  • Florence Falls for a cool swim
  • Tolmer Falls
  • Buley Rockholes
  • Giant Termite Mounds

The 5 Day 4WD Kakadu and Koolpin Tour explores Kakadu National Park at its best.The tour visits the special permit area of Koolpin Gorge as well as seeing Jim Jim Falls, Top of Twin Falls, Barramundi Gorge, Nourlangie Rock and Gunlom Falls.

This tour is designed for the fit and active adventurer.

Traditionally this tour will have your more mature traveller who like fantastic hikes in small groups


Operates only June to September, departing each Tuesday.
Pick up from 06.30am in Darwin.
Max 9 passengers.


Day 1 – Darwin – Kakadu

Pick up from nominated accommodation at approximately 6.30am

Drive to Kakadu via the old Jim Jim Road stopping off at white lily billabong for a stretch and some morning tea.

Then its off to Gunlom Falls for a great hike to the top of the waterfall for great views and a swim in the refreshing pools. Don’t forget to explore the sandybeach at the base of the falls that leads to a large plunge pool.

Tonight we camp at Gunlom by the waterfall, away from the crowds & under the stars.

Showers and toilets are available.

Day 2 – Kakadu/Koolpin Gorge

Today we spend the whole day exploring the magnificent Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge), this is a special permit access area that is recognised for its cultural and environmental sensitivity

The name Jarrangbarnmi comes from the Jawoyn words jarrang meaning flood, or big water flow, and barn meaning rift or gap

Jarrangbarnmi was created by the Jawoyn creation ancestors. It is part of Buladjang country. Bula created this landscape and then went to live under the ground. Bolung (Rainbow Serpent) lives in plunge pools in this country. Both of these powerful creation ancestors can cause earthquakes, storms, floods and disease if disturbed

Koolpin Gorge is in the southern corner of Kakadu National Park, not far from Gunlom Falls

The walk up the gorge is a real wilderness walk and requires a good level of fitness with great rewards on arrival to some of the National Parks most spectacular rock pools, waterfalls and rock landscape.

This remote location is restricted to only 40 people per day and it home to a number of endemic species of fauna.

Return to our camp at Gunlom and tonight we enjoy a dinner cooked on the campfire.

Day 3 – Kakadu

This morning we drive north to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) where we have the entire day to hike, explore and swim in beautiful swimming holes, avoiding the crowds.

A 4-wheel drive adventure takes us to our destination. Upon arrival we take a 1km walk through paperbark and monsoon forest then along a sandy and rocky creek to a small waterfall and that lead us to a beautiful clear plunge pool.

There are small interconnected pools among the rocks that flow into a small lake. The guide will share a few secret swimming holes here including a little secret passage under water connecting two pools.

Here we will also have lunch then a bit more exploring before we make our way further north to Jim Jim Falls.

Tonight we camp at our exclusive safari camp at Garnamarr, at the base of the escarpment.

Day 4– Kakadu

After breakfast we do some 4 Wheel driving to Twin Falls. From here we take the escarpment walk to the top of the falls for a swim in the crystal clear pools away from the crowds.

Day 5 – Kakadu

This morning we visit Nourlangie Rock, an ancient aboriginal occupational and art site, here we can explore these sites before walking up to Gunwhardewharde lookout for an exceptional view of the region including Arnhemland.

We then stop off to visit Bowali information centre.

As we make are way back to Darwin we will call in to the Mamakala wetlands to see the incredible bird life.

We finish our Kakadu tour with a wildlife cruise on the spectacular Corroborree Billabong. This is a great opportunity to get fantastic photos of the local wildlife.

Head back to Darwin, returning at approximately 5.30pm.

This tour covers both Kakadu and Arnhemland National Parks. This is a very active tour which puts large emphasis on aboriginal culture while learning about the wildlife and landscape. The tour is physically active and involves camping, hiking and swimming at waterfalls.

Territory Expeditions has arranged tonight’s accommodation at Aurora Kakadu Lodge. This is a resort style caravan park with a magnificent lagoon style pool, which is surrounded by lush tropical gardens and is complemented by the Poolside Bar & Bistro. Upon arrival you will be given a tent, swag, dinner and breakfast vouchers. The camp site is unpowered so be sure to bring a torch.

Day 4:

  • You will be picked up from your accommodation at approx 8:30am for the start of an unforgettable experience.
  • Today we visit Aboriginal Lands (Arnhem Land) access to this area is restricted to a select group of tour operators.
  • While you are in Arnhem Land a traditional Aboriginal guide will show you excellent examples of rock art on Injalak Hill (Long Tom Dreaming), this area has some of the best rock art examples in
  • Western Arnhem Land and some say Australia.
  • The view from the top of the hill is simply breathtaking, looking out across the floodplains and around the escarpment
  • When we farewell our Aboriginal guide back at the Injalak Art & Craft Centre there is an opportunity to browse or purchase goods from this non-profit Aboriginal organization.
  • This afternoon we are privileged to have access into the valley, with its stunning scenery of billabongs, birds, escarpment this is truly a place where you can escape and experience this unique untouched haven of the Northern Territory.
  • Returning to Darwin approximately 7pm ending this amazing Kakadu tour. (B,L)
